Natural Helpers
GSSM Natural Helpers are an informal "helping network."
Natural
Helpers are the "front line" when it comes to assisting the Guidance
and Residence Life staffs in meeting the physical, emotional and
psychological needs of our students. They serve as peer counselors and
role models. They are nominated by their peers and carefully selected
by a committee of staff and faculty.
A Natural Helper is a
facilitator developing a relationship with his or her peers, helping to
solve problems, and guiding new students in their adjustment to the
GSSM environment. The mission of a Natural Helper is to instill a
"sense of belonging" in new students. They help new students adjust to
the academic and social transition from their home high school to life
at GSSM and to provide assistance to any student in need. Natural
Helpers are selected each year in the spring.
