In his role, Fletcher collaborates with GSSM faculty to infuse the study of economics and finance into the School's science-and math-based curriculum, while also developing new learning opportunities designed to create a culture of entrepreneurial thinking.
Fletcher was selected to lead the Institute and build its curriculum
after GSSM conducted a national search for an innovative director with a
vision for driving the next generation of homegrown scientists,
engineers and business leaders.
Most recently, Fletcher served as a clinical professor and venture
capitalist in residence at The Darla Moore School of Business, where his
responsibilities included teaching and mentoring students in the
areas of new business development and private equity.
A native of Hartsville, Fletcher has lived and worked in London, Boston
and Vancouver, Washington. He earned his undergraduate degree in
electrical engineering, with emphasis in computers and psychology, from
Clemson University in 1992 and a master's degree in business
administration from Harvard Business School in 1998.
Earlier in his career, Fletcher served in numerous technology and
business development roles within large companies and startups. He
served as a principal of an early-stage venture capital fund and as a
founder of an entrepreneurial boot camp for young entrepreneurs. He
also has worked in the areas of strategic planning, mergers &
acquisitions, and technology licensing for BlueCross BlueShield of South
Carolina and in engineering, international operations and business
development for Sonoco Products Company.
In 2006, Fletcher was named a "20 under 40" rising leader in business by The State newspaper. He currently serves on advisory boards for EngenuitySC,
Innovista, and NextStart. He is married to the Rev. Sarah (Tucker)
Fletcher, and the couple has two young sons.
