Seven GSSM Students Nominated as Wofford Scholars

Seven rising seniors at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) have been nominated as scholars at Wofford College in Spartanburg.
The nominated students include: Meghan Barnes of Greenville; Sharon Guffy of Camden; Sarah Lancaster of York; Marshall Mills of Beech Island; Danielle Mumford of Hartsville; Rishi Pandya of Greenville; and Kim Redmond of Hartsville.
The Wofford Scholars Program is the basis of merit-based scholarships at Wofford College. To qualify as a Wofford Scholar nominee, a student should be ranked in the Top 10 percent of the class and have achieved a combined score of 1200 (Critical Reading and Math) on the PSAT or SAT or a 26 on the ACT or PLAN.
Once they become high school seniors, potential scholarship candidates are required to apply for admission to Wofford and to visit the campus to participate in interviews. This allows members of the selection committee to meet students, answer their questions and introduce them to the Wofford community.
Since 1949, outstanding high school students have been competing at Wofford for scholarships based on leadership, academic achievement and character. Each year the college receives nominations for the Wofford Scholars Program from guidance counselors across the United States. From these nominees, students are selected and invited to compete for a variety of scholarships.
