On Saturday, February 9, parents, mentors and friends will gather at GSSM's 19th Annual Research Colloquium to watch and listen as more than 70 students present scientific research they uncovered during internships held last summer.
Colloquium is the culmination of the School's annual Summer Program for Research Interns (SPRI), a program that matches GSSM juniors and their specific interests with scientist mentors at a variety of laboratories across the state including Clemson University, the University of South Carolina, the Medical University of South Carolina and more.
"The students work in real labs with real scientists all across the state for a six-week period," said Randall LaCross, GSSM's outreach director. "They are able to explore a portion of what is a much larger research agenda by running tests, doing experiments and analyzing data. It's not how most teenagers spend their summer vacations."
In addition to GSSM students, 12 other students from high schools across the state also will participate.
