GSSM Foundation Receives $5,000 Grant from Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Foundation

March 11, 2007

The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) Foundation recently provided a $5,000 grant to the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation for its Summer Program for Research Interns (SPRI).

SPRI is a statewide outreach program designed to pair GSSM's academically talented students with scientist mentors in research and development labs across the state for a six-week internship in a variety of fields including biomedical, nanotechnology and alternate fuels engineering. Non-GSSM students from other public, private or homeschooled settings also are encouraged to participate following a detailed application process.

"The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Foundation is happy to support students from the Spartanburg area to be a part of this wonderful program," said Stephany A.M. Ellis, CFRE, executive director of the SRHS Foundation. "Through the generosity of our donors, the SRHS Foundation has given more than $19 million to fund hospital and community programs such as GSSM's Summer Program for Research Interns."
