Vulcan Materials Company Provides $5,000 Contribution to Summer Science Program
January 4, 2007
The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation announced a $5,000 contribution to its Summer Science Program (SSP) from Vulcan Materials Company, the largest construction aggregate producer in the state.
Established in 1990, SSP is a residential summer science camp for rising 9th and 10th graders from across the state. The program is designed for talented young teenagers interested in scientific principals, hands-on lab experiences and one-of-a-kind field trips. Students choose from three, one-week learning sessions, in which they live on the GSSM campus and attend full-day classes.
"Vulcan is impressed with the mission of GSSM and we share the goal of promoting science and math skills as a means of producing a qualified work force in our State," said Vulcan Vice President of Operations Roger Dunlap. "Vulcan is involved in a number of education programs and GSSM is a good fit for our company."
Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE: VMC), a member of the S&P 500 Index, is the nation's foremost producer of construction aggregates (primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel), and a major producer of other construction materials required by the U.S. and local economies.
The South Carolina Regional Office is located in Greenville, with 11 quarry operations in the Upstate and Midlands. For additional information about Vulcan Materials Company, visit www.vulcanmaterials.com.
