August 17, 2009

The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation is pleased to announce that Pam Altman has been named Development Manager and Jesica Johnson has been named Marketing Recruitment Coordinator.

Johnson is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina Masters of Public Administration program.

"A quality education is an invaluable resource to a young person. GSSM works hard to provide that experience and I am honored to help inform South Carolina students of all the advantages GSSM has to offer," Johnson said.

Originally from Beaufort, Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in advertising, also from USC. Her previous professional experience includes advertising sales and events coordination at Palmetto Parent magazine in Columbia. In addition, she has been a long-time volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club.

Altman, a Greenwood native, is a 2001 graduate of GSSM and brings a unique perspective and commitment to her new position with the Foundation.

"I am excited to join the GSSM Foundation staff because, as an alumna of the School, I know the true value of the school to its students and to the state. I look forward to helping build the support necessary to help GSSM grow and prosper in the future," she said.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Altman worked as the Development Assistant at the Richland County Public Library. She received her bachelor's degree in biology from USC. She is married to fellow GSSM Alumnus Wally Altman, a statistician for the state Budget and Control Board.

GSSM Foundation supports the mission of GSSM by giving voice to its needs, providing supplemental funds to augment its programs and informing the public as to its accomplishments and contributions to the quality of life and economic prosperity of South Carolina.
