Dr. Hemant Pendharkar joined the GSSM administration as Vice President for Academic Affairs in July 2007. Previously he was a tenured associate professor at Worcester State College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Pendharkar has published research articles in mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science, presenting his results at international conferences both within the United States and overseas. He is an editor of research journals in mathematics; a member of the Science and Engineering Advisory Team of the Massachusetts Biomedical Initiative; an invited member of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges - Northeastern Region (CCSCNE); and has had research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense and NASA.
Pendharkar has taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in mathematics, computer science, management and mathematics instruction; spent more than a decade in the engineering industry; and is an accomplished athlete. In addition, Pendharkar lived in a residential school (similar to GSSM) as a middle school student and later as a professional academician, spending a year on a student affairs fellowship.
The combination of a background in science and mathematics, years of experience in the business and engineering industries and accomplishments in competitive sports gives Pendharkar the ability to relate easily to students. Also, having taught and conducted research in various disciplines, Pendharkar understands curriculum from a variety of perspectives.
Pendharkar hopes to inspire established teachers with strong academic credentials to come to GSSM, maintaining and enhancing the academic strength GSSM already possesses as it moves toward its projected growth in enrollment.
Pendharkar lives in Hartsville with his wife, Jyothi, and daughter, Aarushi.
